Teddy

This is a photo I took on my iPhone of Teddy when we were in the photo studio on Wednesday.

iPhone Photos

I've been taking loads of images on my iPhone, and I have a few App's to do some post production on them. It's quite cool using such a basic camera after using SLR and Digital SLR's. These are just a few I took today when I went for a walk after work with Alyce.

A little something for Alyce

The last few weeks have been really hectic, well, the last few months really. I've been flat out with uni work and starbucks work and back in November I met Alyce. We've been a couple now since late January/early February and she's been great with helping me with my dissertation and my other projects (she actually helped to thread some of the milk bottles and attach the batteries to the L.E.D lights in the Semester A 'Recycle' project).
So I thought that I'd make her a little something to give to her when she gets back to Lincoln in a few hours, it's only little but I hope it shows my appreciation for all the help and support she gives me. As my dissertation is about the International Typographic Style and sans serif fonts, I have made a cut out of her name in Akzidenz Grotesk (top) and Neue Haas Grotesk [Helvetica] (bottom). It will hang with some fishing wire and be a little wall hanging or something to put on her pin board. Fingers crossed she likes it...

Beats for the Creative Mind

These are some tunes I have been listening to recently while I have been shying away from my dissertation in favor of getting on with my practical project. Beats make projects fun!

Shlohmo - Teeth

Samiyam - Trick Platform

Flying Lotus - Massage Situation

J Dilla - Wild

Peverelist - Roll with the Punches

Final Paint Creation

So we worked on some more paints, this time using just white spirit and gloss paint in orange and grey a.k.a Auburn Falls and Night Jewels Two. The gentleman's gloss paint of choice. Got it mixed up nicely. These are the tests we made.

Creating Paint

For our penultimate university project, myself and Teddy are experimenting with dripping paint (Krink). We are trying to make our own paints for it using nib tipped bottles and mop pen's. We have experimented with different types of paint and ink and these are some of our early attempts. We've been following tutorials from YouTube about how to make the brushes, pens and inks. We plan to use the inks and paints to 'Krink' art objects in a contemporary space and film the creation of it and follow the documentary with a photo booklet of images from the project and how the art can be perceived differently in different scenarios.

Back on the Planet

Last week was my reading week at uni. Got a bit of work done but not a great deal. Had a trip to London and went to see my friend and my parents at the weekend. Saw my old room which still has all my CD's in it, thought I'd post up an image. Also, a picture of the Millennium Bridge and St. Paul's Cathedral in London from my iPhone.

All That Jaaaaaazz.

Today I've been on a bit of a jazz tip. Started the day off with some DJ Krush (not jazz) which was nice and chilled and was good for getting some work done-then I went onto some Lonnie Smith and then through these guys found Lou Donaldson. Sweet. So here's some tunes from today.

DJ Krush - Kemuri

Notorious B.I.G - Things Done Change

Ode to Bille Joe - Lou Donaldson

Lou Donaldson & Dr Lonnie Smith - Whiskey Drinking Woman

Lonnie Smith - Driving Wheel

Dissertation

So today is the first day of my last reading week as an undergraduate student. I've been working on my dissertation on the top floor of the library all day and my enthusiasm is now starting to slack after churning out another 1000 words. I've been working on my chapter about the origins and birth of the international typographic style and so have been researching and discussing early twentieth century movements such as De Stijl and Bauhaus and Futurism and Constructivism and their effect on the creation of the International Typographic Style. Let's hope it makes sense.

Two Little Pictures

These are two little pictures from my iPhone. 'Open Your' is marked on my wall with little bits of black paper and bluetack'ed in place. This was meant to be for the opening sequence of the upcoming production project for uni but we have changed our idea slightly now.
The other image is what was projected onto the wall in my seminar today-when my lecturer put the projector on it was broken and created this projection-something someone would spend hours trying to design, so naturally I stood in front of it and took my picture.

Old Cameras

Went into an antique shop I've not visited before up the hill near The Collection in Lincoln today on a scouting mission for materials for the next project from me and Rhys Grant. These looked awesome-think I may invest in one or two of them come pay day on Thursday!!

Fanta Boy

This lad just loves his Fanta!! @Rhys Grant

Samhain by RebelSonix

Just signed up to Sound Cloud today thanks to a tip off from Bec. It's pretty sweet, just been checking out the dubstep links on there. Here's one I like a lot.

5 Minute Self Portrait

This is a 5 minute project I did which has turned out as a bit of a self portrait. I just had an idea floating around in my head about faceless images and thought I'd give it a quick go. Hopefully I'll work on the concept a bit more in the future in better quality and detail.

Nas + MF Doom = NastraDoomus

I'm just at home for an hour in between uni and have been looking for tunes on youtube and found this little gem. Only a remix-never an actual colab but still really good.

Portraits of Bec

35mm portrait of Bec Evans.

Todays Tunes.

Today I've been working on my dissertation. It's titled 'The International Typographic Style: It's use and value in modern graphic design'. I've been doing more research into the origins of typographic communication and the 'Swiss Style'. On monday it will be 2 months to the day of the hand in. 10,000 words. It's a ball ache but good to be learning so much about a topic.
So I have been listening to loads of tunes while working on it today, here's a few.

Till Suns in Your Eye - DJ Vadim

Dael - Autechre

You Could Ruin my Day - Four Tet

Loungin' - Guru

Sofa King - DangerDoom

Elder Blossoms - Metal Fingers

1st Year Self Portraiture

In my first year of uni we had to experiment with self portraiture for our portfolio. On reflection these are really rough but show where I started in contrast to where I am now and what I have learned in the last few years. This is a quicktime showreel that we had to produce to hand in, the project was inspired and named after the Burial - Ghost Hardware track. I'll link the tune via. youtube and maybe you can play them both in sync so you can see how it was meant to be viewed.

BMX Bike

Saw this awesome BMX bike chained up outside uni the other week so I took a picture on my iPhone and created it into this.

Got Milk?

Got Milk? is the documentary film to go with the Recycle installation project by myself and Rhys Grant.

Recycle Project.

This was an installation project that I created in collaboration with Rhys Grant. We lit the milk bottles with L.E.D lights and then paraded the piece around Lincoln City Center. We recorded the entire process of the project with a documentary film.
