A little something for Alyce

The last few weeks have been really hectic, well, the last few months really. I've been flat out with uni work and starbucks work and back in November I met Alyce. We've been a couple now since late January/early February and she's been great with helping me with my dissertation and my other projects (she actually helped to thread some of the milk bottles and attach the batteries to the L.E.D lights in the Semester A 'Recycle' project).
So I thought that I'd make her a little something to give to her when she gets back to Lincoln in a few hours, it's only little but I hope it shows my appreciation for all the help and support she gives me. As my dissertation is about the International Typographic Style and sans serif fonts, I have made a cut out of her name in Akzidenz Grotesk (top) and Neue Haas Grotesk [Helvetica] (bottom). It will hang with some fishing wire and be a little wall hanging or something to put on her pin board. Fingers crossed she likes it...

Creating Paint

For our penultimate university project, myself and Teddy are experimenting with dripping paint (Krink). We are trying to make our own paints for it using nib tipped bottles and mop pen's. We have experimented with different types of paint and ink and these are some of our early attempts. We've been following tutorials from YouTube about how to make the brushes, pens and inks. We plan to use the inks and paints to 'Krink' art objects in a contemporary space and film the creation of it and follow the documentary with a photo booklet of images from the project and how the art can be perceived differently in different scenarios.

Back on the Planet

Last week was my reading week at uni. Got a bit of work done but not a great deal. Had a trip to London and went to see my friend and my parents at the weekend. Saw my old room which still has all my CD's in it, thought I'd post up an image. Also, a picture of the Millennium Bridge and St. Paul's Cathedral in London from my iPhone.

All That Jaaaaaazz.
Today I've been on a bit of a jazz tip. Started the day off with some DJ Krush (not jazz) which was nice and chilled and was good for getting some work done-then I went onto some Lonnie Smith and then through these guys found Lou Donaldson. Sweet. So here's some tunes from today.
DJ Krush - Kemuri
Notorious B.I.G - Things Done Change
Ode to Bille Joe - Lou Donaldson
Lou Donaldson & Dr Lonnie Smith - Whiskey Drinking Woman

Dissertation

So today is the first day of my last reading week as an undergraduate student. I've been working on my dissertation on the top floor of the library all day and my enthusiasm is now starting to slack after churning out another 1000 words. I've been working on my chapter about the origins and birth of the international typographic style and so have been researching and discussing early twentieth century movements such as De Stijl and Bauhaus and Futurism and Constructivism and their effect on the creation of the International Typographic Style. Let's hope it makes sense.
